- Shimizu Port 830→Shuttle Bus→Shin-Shimizu Station→Shin-Shizuoka Station→Nihondaira Ropeway→Kunozan Toshogu Shrine→Nihondaira Ropeway→Shin-Shizuoka Station→Shin-Shimizu Station→Taxi (paid by customer)→World Heritage Miho no Matsubara→Shimizu Station→Shuttle Bus→1530 Shimizu Port
Title: What's a Private Cruise Port Day Tour to Nihondaira and Miho no Matsubara in Shizuoka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Although the meeting time was set for 9:00, the guests disembarked from the cruise ship as early as 8:15, giving us a promising start. By connecting a shuttle bus, the Shizuoka Railway, and a local bus, we managed to enjoy the classic views of Mount Fuji from Nihondaira and Miho no Matsubara. Because of the rain the previous day, I had been worried about whether Mount Fuji would be visible, but it could be seen from both locations, and the guests were extremely pleased. Since our timing overlapped with tour groups arriving by bus, it took about an hour to board the Nihondaira Ropeway, which was quite challenging. Even so, it turned out to be a thoroughly satisfying day. As there are only a limited number of local buses, I carried out the tour with careful attention to itinerary management.

Since I completely retired from my position at a railway company and started being involved in the tour guide interpreter business, I have experienced almost all types of guiding through FIT, Long Group Tours, Cruises (Shore Excursions), Incentive Tours, Special Interest Tours (Railway Travel, Pilgrimages), Familiarization Tours (Sales Promotion Tours) etc.
However, I noticed that I am not fully satisfied to only be a general guide who just manages a tour itinerary provided by tour agents/clients.
High-end guests have sometimes requested me to answer some enquiries that are actually challenging to answer for Japanese nationals. However, I appreciated those because they provided such a challenge and I felt that they wanted to understand my sense of beauty/values as a guide concerning a new culture for them.
Every time I host my guest I do my best to prepare the most appropriate information based on three travel elements (appetite, logistics, accommodation). Nevertheless, I decided to aim for higher guiding skills after I was motivated by senior guides whose guiding strategies and gestures were particularly impressive.

We had a fantastic day touring the highlights of Kyoto with our guide YOSHI and his driver. Yoshi was excellent at helping put together a plan prior to our arrival and everything worked to perfection. Our family of seven enjoyed a relaxed informative day of seeing and better understanding the amazing sights of Kyoto.

Our tour guide, Yoshi-san, a sweet and gentle elderly gentleman, was incredibly kind, patient, and deeply knowledgeable about the town. He brought us to a wonderful local ramen shop that we would never have found on our own, and shared the history of Takayama with such warmth and pride that it truly came alive for us. Through his stories and guidance, we were completely charmed by Takayama’s rich history and culture. Thank you so much Yoshi-san for making our trip so memorable!
