What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from North America. It was an extremely hot day, with the high temperature reaching nearly 37 degrees Celsius, so I was very concerned about heatstroke throughout the day.
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove offered some shade, which was nice, but it was still quite hot. We quickly moved on to Kinkaku-ji, where the guests had lunch and cooled down. We also took a taxi from Kinkaku-ji to Nijo Castle to avoid the heat. One of the guests was a fan of the drama Shogun, and the group toured Nijo Castle with great enthusiasm. Finally, we visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, but because of the intense heat, we had to stop partway through and headed back to the Port of Osaka. A tour on such a hot day was quite demanding, and I believe the guests were tired by the end.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
