What Does a Private Kyoto Tour Visiting Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

I guided a group visiting from Oceania. The guests had requested the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle, as they enjoy visiting castles.

At Nijo Castle, the guests were greatly impressed by the Karamon Gate and the interior of the Ninomaru Palace. At Kinkaku-ji, they enjoyed the beauty of the golden pavilion and its garden.

Along the way, I explained the Ryumon (Dragon Gate) by referring to characters the guests were familiar with, which sparked their interest, and they took photos in front of the waterfall.

At the Kyoto Imperial Palace, the guests admired the grandeur of the buildings, but since some of them were getting hungry, we skipped a few areas such as the Seiryoden. Finally, I guided them to a restaurant within the imperial garden, and the tour came to an end.

They were a very pleasant group, and they kindly told me to get in touch if I ever visit Oceania.

Yes. This report describes one private tour as it actually ran. Every Kyoto itinerary is built around the guests, so the places, the pace and the starting point can all be changed before the tour.

Hello! My name is Umi. I was born and raised in Kyoto, and I still live here today.

I have always loved traveling. When I visit another country, I enjoy learning about its history, culture, and way of life from local people. Talking with locals helps me understand a place much better than simply visiting famous sights. That’s why I became a tour guide.

Through my tours, I hope to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of Japan. In addition to its beauty and traditions, I am also happy to talk about modern life in Japan. My goal is for my guests to leave Japan with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation of the country.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!
