What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama, Nijo Castle, and Fushimi Inari
Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were traveling to Tokyo, Miyajima, Osaka, and Kyoto. One of the guests had a family connection to Hiroshima and had visited there as a child, and they spoke a little Japanese. The Arashiyama bamboo grove was quite crowded, but the guests enjoyed it very much. Since many school-trip students were around, I suggested visiting Nijo Castle during the lunch hour, and they happily agreed. It was uncrowded, so we were able to see it at a relaxed pace, which was great. They also enjoyed the lunch at Ukiya Pontocho Honten. Afterward, we strolled through Pontocho and visited Fushimi Inari Taisha. There were many people, but at times the Senbon Torii was less crowded, which pleased the guests. I believe they had a wonderful time.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
