Tour Itinerary
- 13:00 Meet at the west entrance of Nishiki Market ➡ By taxi to Daisen-in (13:30~14:30) ➡ By taxi to Kinkaku-ji (14:50~15:50) ➡ Heian Shrine (16:20~17:00) ➡ Wrap up early due to dinner arrangements, see off the guests (17:00)
Can You Do a Private Afternoon Temple Tour in Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a family visiting Japan from North America. Some of the guests spoke a little Japanese and had an interest in Japanese animation. Their morning included a tea ceremony experience and lunch at Nishiki Market, and my tour with them was originally scheduled to begin at 14:00. However, through our prior communication, we moved it one hour earlier because the temples and shrines close early. Kinkaku-ji was extremely crowded, with a 20-minute wait to enter. Compared with a week earlier, it felt as though the number of tourists had increased with the year-end season. The guests also enjoyed matcha at Daisen-in. I learned that the long-established Japanese confectionery shop that has made the traditional sweet called senpyo, served alongside the matcha and unchanged for 40 years, will soon close because there is no successor to carry it on. Since this confectionery was so closely associated with Daisen-in, it was very sad to hear.

Lovely afternoon with English speaking Emiko Yamanaka. Very informative and knowledgeable about the history of the city. Visited the Torii shrine, sadly the other shrine had just closed, and walked through the Gion district. Emi also provided us with a map that she had made with the must see places, including which subway line and how many stops to take! Very useful for the next day trip. Would highly recommend Emi as your tour guide

We had a two day 6hr tour with our guide who took us around in Kyoto. It was a well balanced walking tour through historical sites, famous streets/neighbourhoods and local markets. We travelled very efficiently with a combination of taxis, trains and buses. Our guide Emi was very well prepared, with high flexibility, kindness and curiosity. She was a great value to the tour. I highly recommend this two day tour to visit Kyoto in a very efficient way.

We had a delightful day with our guide Emi. She designed a day around all the main spots that we wanted to visit at a comfortable pace. We learned a lot from her! And we couldn’t have done all that we did that day without her deep knowledge and experience. My niece said that it was the best day of our vacation!
