- 9:20-9:50 Shinsen-en sightseeing
- 10:12-10:19 Nijo→Saga-Arashiyama JR 200 yen
- 11:15-12:30 Arashiyama area sightseeing (Bamboo Grove Path, Kimono Forest, Tenryu-ji, etc.)
- 12:00-12:50 Lunch @Tenryu Ramen
- 13:00-13:50 Monkey Park Iwatayama sightseeing
- 14:14-14:32 Arashiyama→Karasuma Hankyu 240 yen
- 14:40-14:49 Shijo→Marutamachi 220 yen Subway
- 15:00 Disband @Hyatt Place Kyoto
What's a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like with a Licensed Guide? A Guide's Report on Arashiyama and More
The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. Throughout the planning, the main contact worked hard to keep everyone engaged and entertained during the tour. It was unexpected that Nijo Castle was closed, but we visited nearby Shinsenen, where we watched the large carp while I talked about Shinto and Buddhism. After that, we moved to Arashiyama, where I guided them through the Bamboo Grove path, Tenryuji Temple, and the Kimono Forest, and we had ramen for lunch. Then we went to the Monkey Park, where they enjoyed interacting with the wild monkeys. Since they had already visited Nishiki Market the day before, we skipped it and returned to the hotel.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.

Andy Murao was an amazing and wonderful tour guide. He reached out to us with some ideas for our private tour. He worked with us as we made the tour perfectly suited to our needs. He met us on time. He navigated the crowds and the sites perfectly. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He even put together a nice photo collection of photos he emailed us after. Highly recommend.
