Tour Itinerary
- 6:30 Hotel Meet (@Park Hyatt Kyoto)
- 6:30-8:00 Kiyomizu-dera Temple visit (including Yasaka Pagoda, Ninen-zaka, Sannen-zaka)
- 8:00-8:30 Transfer (Keihan Railway; Kiyomizu-Gojo → Fushimi Inari)
- 8:30-9:20 Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine visit
- 9:20-9:50 Transfer (Keihan Railway; Fushimi Inari → Keihan Shichijo)
- 9:50-10:40 Sanjusangendo Temple visit
- 10:40-11:10 Transfer (City Bus: Sanjusangendo-mae → Gion)
- 11:10-12:00 Gion stroll (Hanamikoji, Gion Shirakawa)
- 12:00 Tour ends. After the tour ended in Gion, we said goodbye to the guests.
Title: What's an Early Morning Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu, Fushimi Inari, and Gion
The guests were a group of friends visiting from North America. Some of them had visited Japan and Kyoto several times before, while it was the first visit for the others.
The tour was originally scheduled to start early at 7:00, but due to their plans after the tour, the start time was moved even earlier to 6:30.
Their hotel was 15 minutes from the nearest station, but we made it in time by taking the first train of the day.
Starting at 6:30, we began the tour from Kiyomizu near the hotel, then visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, Sanjusangendo, and Gion.
It was still completely dark when the tour began, but the sunrise appeared just as we arrived at Kiyomizu-dera.
Some of the guests loved the impressive scale of Kiyomizu-dera. Another appreciated the many torii gates at Fushimi Inari, which cannot be seen elsewhere.
Initially, the plan was to take the guests to a restaurant they had reserved after visiting Gion, but they decided to make their own way there by taxi after Gion, so the tour ended a little earlier than planned.

Kyoto temple tour
Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
