- 7:00-7:30 Transfer (taxi; hotel → Kiyomizu-dera/Chawanzaka)
- 7:30-8:40 Visit Kiyomizu-dera
- 8:40-9:30 Transfer (taxi; Kiyomizu-dera Gojozaka → Kinkaku-ji)
- 9:30-10:20 Visit Kinkaku-ji
- 10:20-10:40 Transfer (city bus; Kinkakuji-michi → Ryoanji-mae)
- 10:40-11:30 Visit Ryoan-ji
- 11:30-12:00 Transfer (taxi; Ryoan-ji → Shimogamo Shrine)
- 12:00-13:00 Visit Shimogamo Shrine
- 13:00-13:20 Transfer (Keihan train; Demachiyanagi → Keihan Shichijo)
- 13:20-14:00 Lunch (udon; Kamogawa Seimen @ near Keihan Shichijo Station)
- 14:10-15:00 Visit Sanjusangen-do
- 15:00 Tour ends after visiting Sanjusangen-do. After the tour, we escorted them to Keihan Shichijo Station and said goodbye there.
What Can You See on an Early-Morning Private Kyoto Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from North America, and this was their first time in Kyoto. They arrived in Japan in February. It was an early-morning tour starting at 7:00, and the group added two hours to the originally planned six-hour tour, opting for a Quick Lunch so we could arrange to visit as many places as possible. Since the tour involved young members of the group, we avoided crowded long-distance buses and traveled mainly by taxi. I took the guests to Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Shimogamo Shrine, and Sanjusangendo. The guests all commented that Sanjusangendo was deeply moving. They were also impressed by Kinkaku-ji and the cliffside construction of Kiyomizu-dera. The weather was fine, some autumn foliage still remained, and I believe the early-morning tour allowed us to avoid much of the crowds, which was a real advantage.

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
