What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Temple Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's private tour was for a group of guests visiting from North America and the Middle East. One of the guests had been to Japan before, while the others were visiting for the first time. Their family also loves Japan and has visited many times. The guests were deeply interested in Japanese history and culture, and there were many opportunities to explain these topics, making it a truly rewarding day as a guide. The beauty of the Tenryu-ji Temple garden could be enjoyed at leisure today, as there were not too many people, and the guests were also able to take their time viewing the rock garden at Ryoan-ji Temple. Kinkaku-ji Temple was not very crowded either, and I believe the guests were very pleased. The tour was led by a government-licensed guide from [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides serving all 47 prefectures.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
Throughout the tour, Kaeko was incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and personable. She shared so much history and local insight while making the day feel relaxed and fun.
