- 9:00 Hotel Meet (@Hotel)
- 9:00-9:50 Travel (Subway; Marutamachi→Sanjo Keihan, Keihan Train; Keihan Sanjo→Kiyomizu Gojo)
- 9:50-11:10 Kiyomizu-dera Temple visit (including Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, Yasaka Pagoda, Koshin-do)
- 11:10-11:20 Travel (City Bus: Yasaka Shrine→Higashiyama Shichijo)
- 11:20-12:10 Sanjusangendo visit
- 12:20-13:10 Lunch (@Sato / near Sanjusangendo)
- 13:10-13:50 Travel (Keihan Train; Keihan Shichijo→Keihan Sanjo, Subway; Sanjo Keihan→Nijojo-mae)
- 13:50-15:00 Nijo Castle visit
- 15:00 Tour ends after visiting Nijo Castle. After the tour, we escorted the guests to their hotel and said goodbye in front of the hotel.
What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Nijo Castle
The guests were visitors from Oceania. It was their first time in Japan, but before coming to Kyoto they had visited Kanazawa and Takayama. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Nijo Castle. Since one of the guests had a long-standing interest in pottery and still enjoyed ceramics as a hobby, we walked along Chawanzaka, one of the approaches to Kiyomizu-dera, and stopped at a pottery shop there. We could only spend a short time at this shop, but it turned out to be the guest's favorite part of the whole tour. Another of the guests seemed to like Sanjusangendo best.
The guests walked steadily and had no trouble at all with the walking tour. They found the high humidity difficult, but fortunately the sky was cloudy during the tour, which helped.

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
