What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama and Kinkaku-ji
Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were traveling on a cruise ship starting from Tokyo, and had already seen Tokyo, Mount Fuji, and other sights. First, we went to the Arashiyama Monkey Park, which the guests enjoyed. As expected, they were delighted with feeding the monkeys. After that, we moved on to a tonkatsu restaurant near Kinkaku-ji. I believe they were pleased. Around that time there was a heavy downpour, but fortunately the rain had stopped by the time we reached Kinkaku-ji. It was also raining heavily while we were traveling by bus afterward. From inside the bus, they were able to see the preparations for the Gion Festival, which they seemed very interested in. Finally, I guided them to Gion's Hanamikoji Street and Tatsumi Bridge to conclude the tour. Since we walked quite a lot, some of the guests may have been tired.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
