Tour Itinerary in Detail
The itinerary covered Hilton Kyoto at 10:30, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine at 11:00, Sanjusangendo at 11:45, Kyoto Imperial Palace at 12:45, Nijo Castle at 14:30 and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove Path at 15:45.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Sanjo to Fushimi Inari by train (220JPY); Shichijo to Sanjo by train (170JPY); Sanjo Keihan to Imadegawa by subway (260JPY); Nijojo-mae to Uzumasa Tenjingawa by subway (260JPY); Randen Tenjingawa to Arashiyama by train (250JPY). Across 5 sections the fare came to 1,160JPY per person.
What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Sanjusangendo, and the Imperial Palace
The guests were a group visiting from Europe. The planned itinerary was: Hotel → Fushimi Inari Taisha → Sanjusangendo → a walk through Gion → lunch (a soba restaurant) → Nijo Castle → the Bamboo Grove Path in Arashiyama → dispersing at the Randen Arashiyama Station. However, since they had visited Gion the previous day, we substituted the Kyoto Imperial Palace on the day. At the sightseeing spots, they tended to view the scenery quietly, rarely taking photos or asking questions, but they listened carefully to the guide's explanations. I believe what they enjoyed most were Sanjusangendo and the Kyoto Imperial Palace. At Sanjusangendo, they quietly whispered "Wow," walking at their own pace and pausing to admire the Buddhist statues. Although they were guests who did not take many photos, when it came to the Shishinden hall at the Kyoto Imperial Palace, they carefully photographed it, choosing the best spot and angle without compromise. For lunch, they requested soba, so I guided them to a soba restaurant, where they enjoyed a tempura zaru set meal and more. During the meal or along the way, our conversation turned to career paths, workplace culture, and railway congestion. Apparently, even after the pandemic there was a movement to return to the office, but many people resist it. As they also asked about the situation in Japan, I shared a story that at a certain company I know of, when they surveyed their employees, the most common answer was a wish to come into the office three times a week. I also explained the Japanese employment customs of seniority-based systems and lifetime employment, along with their pros and cons, and they seemed to reflect on it thoroughly. When I asked their impression of the railway congestion in the metropolitan area, they answered, "It's certainly bad, but it's more comfortable than the London Underground, which has no air conditioning."

Masaki was our guide through Kyoto the day after we arrived. It was a wonderful experience, learning both about the culture and the hidden gems. He shared the details of each temple that he took us to, as well as took us through streets that showed the different styles of the Japanese culture the best part was that he was very communicative prior to and after our tour. He was so on top of everything that he made reservations at a specific restaurant during our tour, based on our interests, so that we do not waste time. It was an area that we would not be able to find on our own, obviously. He also changed some of the areas we were going to tour, based on our sons interest. That was actually the best part for our son, as he was able to experience archery.
The best part is that Masaki is so kind and considerate that there was a typhoon coming through Tokyo during our stay. He knew we were going to be traveling there after Kyoto and he made sure to update us with the train schedules and the storm details. We could not have asked for a better guide through Kyoto. I wish we could utilize his expertise in Tokyo…

Absolutely perfect for getting the most out of a single day in Kyoto. Masaki-san is an excellent tour guide. He communicated well by WhatsApp to set up our plans so we could see everything we wanted. He kindly adjusted our start time after our travel plans were delayed. He figured out the best way to adjust our tour when we spent too long admiring a few places! And he took us to the most amazing local type place for lunch. Overall it was beyond our expectations and we truly are grateful and thankful to Masaki-San for our truly perfect day!

Masaki was s wonderful and patient guide for our first visit to Kyoto. He explained the significance of the castle and temples we visited, pointing out parts he felt were most interesting. He also went out of his way to help us figure out our bullet train tickets for our return.
