What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report
The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America and were staying at a hotel right in the heart of Gion. They had done a food tour in Gion the previous evening, so they said it was fine not to include Gion in today's tour. Even so, first thing in the morning I began by explaining the history of Gion, what geisha and maiko are, the history of geisha, and the history of Yasaka Shrine, and then we moved on to each spot. At every spot, each time I gave an explanation, the conversation would drift off into all sorts of private topics one after another, and although I struggled to steer it back, I gradually started to find it enjoyable myself and thoroughly enjoyed and learned from the tangents. As we had entered June, the shrines were in the season of "Nagoshi no Harae," a custom that is not very familiar to visitors from abroad, so it was memorable how attentively they listened to my explanation with great interest. I hope they enjoyed themselves.

Our guide in Kyoto was Kazu. By the end of the day, we felt like we had made a new friend.
Kazu helped us arrange the best day with our short time in Kyoto. He brought us to some “hidden gems” and gave us thorough explanations on history and culture.

Our tour guide Kazu was very knowledgeable in terms of the history and explaining many of
the wonderful ancient sites around Kyoto. Definitely a must! Otherwise, I think it would be
difficult to tourists to understand on their own.
