What Is a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. The tour was scheduled to start at 8:15, but the guests appeared in the lobby about 10 minutes late. They requested a chicken dish for lunch, so based on the itinerary I made a reservation at "Kushikura" on Takakura Oike-agaru. It is a place with a nice atmosphere and good food, but as I had also felt on a previous visit, its drawback is that the food takes a long time to arrive. It took about 25 minutes for what we ordered to come out. As a result, we spent an hour on lunch. Kiyomizu-dera Temple was also on the itinerary, and since it was very crowded, it took more time than expected, so by the time we finished the tour at Kodai-ji Temple, we were more than 30 minutes over schedule. When we had discussed the itinerary, we had planned that I would guide them to Nishiki Market after the tour, but in the end they went there on their own. Today it reached nearly 30 degrees, hot enough to call it summer. The guests walked well and did not do any extra shopping, which I was grateful for. The photo was taken at Kodai-ji Temple.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.
