Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Temple and Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

At the Hotel, slightly earlier than the scheduled time, I discussed the day's itinerary with the guests from Europe. We decided to visit Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and then either Tenryu-ji or Ginkaku-ji. At Kinkaku-ji, after explaining the story of Yoshimitsu and the precepts of Buddhism, we viewed the magnificent Rokuon-ji. Along with introducing the garden of Kinkaku-ji, which is a pond-strolling style garden, I also shared the story of the burning of Kinkaku-ji. In addition, since the guests had a strong interest in Japanese culture, I explained bonsai, the tea ceremony, ikebana, and the Zen teaching of "not relying on words," and they listened with great interest. We walked from Kinkaku-ji to Ryoan-ji, where I guided them through the rock garden, a representative example of the dry landscape (karesansui) style. Here too, I introduced the philosophy suggested by the rock garden. Next, we explored the pond-strolling garden, the dry landscape garden, and the botanical garden of Tenryu-ji, allowing them to fully enjoy a glimpse of Japanese beauty, which brought the day's guiding to a close. Finally, at the guests' request, I explained how to buy tickets at Kyoto Station and how to travel toward Osaka and Hiroshima.

After a rather long teaching experience at Japanese college, I converted my career about 6 years ago into working as a tour guide for the tourists visiting Japan.
As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.
With all these interesting and exciting experiences I’ve made myself ready to enrich your tour and make it both enjoyable and worthwhile.
