What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari
The guests were part of a group visiting and sightseeing in Japan from Oceania. Prior contact and coordination were carried out with one of the guests. After I was assigned in September, I immediately sent an initial message, but there was no reply for about a month. With help from [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) and a local travel agency acting as an intermediary, I finally received a reply from the guests in October. After several email exchanges, we finalized the destinations, and respecting the guests' wishes, we settled on Kinkaku-ji, then Arashiyama (Tenryu-ji, the Bamboo Grove, and Togetsukyo Bridge), and finally Fushimi Inari.
On the day of the tour it was quite cold, but the weather turned out to be perfect for sightseeing. The guests arrived almost exactly at the scheduled meeting time, and after greetings and going over the itinerary, we set off. The guests were both in good health and quick to move, so getting around using public transportation went smoothly without any problems. Thanks to this, I was able to conduct the tour almost exactly according to the itinerary.
What left a strong impression on me throughout the tour was that the guests got along very well, were cheerful and fond of jokes, and were highly curious, so we were able to build a friendly rapport quickly despite it being our first meeting. They also had a strong interest in and deep curiosity about Japanese culture, history, and religion, listening attentively to my explanations and asking many questions, which allowed me to provide a very fulfilling guiding experience. The one thing I was a little concerned about was that one of the guests wore shorts from start to finish. At first they insisted, "I've been traveling around Southeast Asia in this outfit, so it's not cold, it's just right," but from the latter half of Arashiyama they admitted, "It's a bit chilly." When I advised, "You should go buy some pants as soon as the tour is over," they laughed heartily and agreed. When we parted at Kyoto Station at the end, both guests said they had a great time and gave me a hug, and it was a very enjoyable tour for me as well.

Hi, everyone! I’m Norifumi Kamon, a government registered guide interpreter. Please call me “Nori”, or “Kamon-san”.
Let me introdece myself. I was born on April 17th in 1952 in Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu island. I used to be an English teacher of Osaka Prefectural high school. When I retired from a teacher ten years ago, I decided to get a professional guide license. I wanted to play a role of the bridge between Japanese people and the people from all over the world as a second life of mine. After two years efforts, I finally got the guide license. Since then, I have guided several handreds of foreign people mainly in Kyoto and Nara for about five years except Corona Pandemic period. Almost all the tourists were deeply impressed by the beauty of nature, traditoin, culture, and art of Japan. I can surely help you enjoy and be satisfied with the sightseeing in Japan. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.

Knowledgeable guide and a great tour
We did our private tour with Kamon-San, and he was a great guide to show off the sites and features of Nara! He got their early, and had a detailed and interesting schedule planned for us, including several of the local shrines and temples, allowing us to also enjoy the deer throughout our tour.
He also took us to a nice local restaurant where we were able to enjoy some of the best soba and catsu curry we had all trip! Kamon-san’s insights and trivia were definitely one of the top highlights from our entire trip to Japan! We would strongly recommend not just Nara but this guided tour to anyone who wants to appreciate more than just the deer!

Thoroughly enjoyed the day out with our guide Nori. Without him we would have been
literally lost & seen nowhere near the amount of sites. Nori guidance was top notch.
