- 8:00 Hotel Meet
- 8:00-8:50 Travel (Keihan Train; Keihan Sanjo → Kiyomizu-Gojo)
- 8:50-10:20 Kiyomizu area visit & stroll (Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, Yasaka Pagoda, Koshin-do)
- 10:20-11:00 Travel (City Bus: Kiyomizu-michi → Keihan Shichijo, Keihan Train; Keihan Shichijo → Fushimi Inari)
- 11:00-12:00 Fushimi Inari visit
- 12:00-12:40 Travel (Keihan Train; Fushimi Inari → Keihan Sanjo, Subway; Sanjo Keihan → Nijojo-mae)
- 12:40-13:40 Nijo Castle visit
- 13:40-13:50 Travel (Subway; Nijojo-mae → Sanjo Keihan)
- 14:00 Arrive at hotel. Tour ends. Said goodbye to the guests in front of the hotel.
Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu, Fushimi Inari, and Nijo Castle
The guests were visitors from Oceania. It was their first time in Japan. I took them to the Kiyomizu area (Kiyomizu-dera Temple, the Yasaka Pagoda, and Koshin-do), Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, and Nijo Castle. During the day it grew warm enough to break a sweat, but we were able to proceed with the tour under clear skies.
Although it was not quite as busy as the three-day weekend the day before, each location was crowded, and especially within the torii gates of Fushimi Inari it was so packed that it was difficult to move around. At Nijo Castle as well, large tour groups had arrived in great numbers, so we conducted the tour while trying to avoid the congestion. As one of the guests had a background involving architecture, there was particular interest in Japanese architectural styles, and the kake-zukuri (cliff-built) construction of Kiyomizu-dera Temple was admired. Both of the guests also said they enjoyed the painted sliding screens at Nijo Castle.
A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto's most famous Shinto shrines, dedicated to Inari, the deity associated with rice, agriculture, and prosperity. It is renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding paths up the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine dates back to the 8th century and remains one of the most visited sites in Kyoto, attracting travelers from around the world throughout the year.

We had a lovely morning walk with Michi. He had a great English, was at our meeting point before the planned time, he explained in such a delicate way the story behind the temples, buildings and streets of our tour. He was lovely towards our children and pleased us when we wanted to stop at a shop, eat/ drink smtng or even go to see a statue that was

Kyoto temple tour
Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!
