What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nijo Castle, and Fushimi Inari

The guests were a friendly group visiting together. They were very active, and this week they were going to complete the Kumano Kodo trail over the course of five days toward the weekend. The conditions were a little unfortunate, with intermittent light rain, but they were full of energy as we walked through the Kyoto Imperial Palace Garden from north to south. At Nijo Castle, they seemed captivated by the carvings on the transoms. For lunch, they requested a ramen restaurant, so I took them to one of my favorite chain restaurants. They seemed to enjoy it, and everyone finished every last drop of the soup. At Fushimi Inari, they commented on how beautiful the vermilion of the torii gates was, and they also enjoyed the Omokaru-ishi stones. It was a bright and very enjoyable day.

A notable stop on the tour was Fushimi Inari Taisha. Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto's most iconic shrines, dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice and prosperity. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form winding pathways up the sacred Mount Inari. Visitors can also find numerous fox statues throughout the grounds, as foxes are believed to be the messengers of Inari.
