What Is a Full-Day Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. The itinerary included an unplanned café break and an extension request (1.5 hours), resulting in the following route: Hotel → Fushimi Inari Taisha → Sanjusangendo → Nijo Castle → lunch (a Kyoto cuisine restaurant) → café → Nanzenji → Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka → Kiyomizudera → Hotel. Despite the rain, it was a long tour totaling 7.5 hours, yet the guests showed no signs of fatigue and walked energetically. Both were very friendly and easygoing. While traveling from one sightseeing spot to another, our conversation ranged widely, covering topics such as family, work and workplaces, diet, and lifestyle, as well as debate education, medicine and alcohol, employment of older people, pet keeping, and the protection of stray cats. It was also a tour that involved frequent use of trains and subways, and the guests were amazed by the functionality, comfort, and cleanliness of Japan's railways. For lunch, I introduced them to a restaurant with a distinctly Kyoto atmosphere, where they thoroughly enjoyed authentic Japanese cuisine.
