What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. It took a little time to meet up at Kyoto Station, but we met without any trouble and headed by bus to Sanjusangendo. They were deeply moved by the 1,001 statues of the Thousand-Armed Kannon, and then we took a bus toward Kiyomizu-dera. Although it was a hot day, we climbed the slope to Kiyomizu-dera, scooped water at Otowa Waterfall, and took many photos. Since the guests were interested in culture, I explained Japanese food, kimono, and how to pray at shrines and temples while we enjoyed soft-serve ice cream and food tastings, walking along Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, and Kodai-ji, then on to Yasaka Shrine and Gion. We had a late lunch at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, and I introduced some Japanese games. We took photos at Hanamikoji and at the Nintendo Super Mario spot, guided them through Nishiki Market, and then ended the tour.
