Tour Itinerary in Detail
This private tour of Kyoto began at 8:15, when the guide met the guests at your accommodation, and finished at 15:15. The day ran to 7 hours from start to finish.
From there the group visited Arashiyama Monkey Park at 9:00, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove Walk at 10:20, Ramen Factory Kyoto at 11:00, Kinkaku-ji Temple at 13:20 and Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine at 14:25.
What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in Extreme Summer Heat? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group, and the tour was conducted with constant care to prevent heatstroke, as some of the guests were young. The forecast high in Kyoto today was 40°C, so we headed first thing in the morning to the Arashiyama Monkey Park, where the guests enjoyed feeding the young monkeys. Since we had a reservation at a ramen-making factory from 11:00, our stroll through the bamboo grove was kept short, but I felt that an indoor activity in a cool room was the best choice on a day like this. The ramen was reportedly prepared to accommodate the guests, and they were very satisfied. Afterwards we visited Kinkaku-ji, but the felt temperature was 42°C, so I judged it to be dangerous, and we ended quickly after viewing only the Golden Pavilion before heading to Fushimi Inari Taisha. There too, the guests enjoyed only the Senbon Torii. On tours during extreme heat, I believe it is important to avoid overexertion.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
