Title: What's a Private One-Day Car Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests on this occasion were a group visiting Japan from North America, traveling in the order of Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, and Osaka. Prior consultations about the itinerary were handled through messaging. Initially, they had hoped to visit Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji, and Arashiyama, but because the destinations were quite far apart in terms of scheduling, Fushimi Inari was canceled after discussion. As a result, the finalized course was Hotel ⇒ Kiyomizu-dera ⇒ Nijo Castle ⇒ Kinkaku-ji ⇒ Arashiyama ⇒ Hotel (end).

On the day, the weather was clear and perfect for a tour. We were able to move smoothly by private car and cover the planned course as scheduled. As this was the guests' first visit to Japan, they seemed to take in everything they saw and heard with a fresh sense of wonder. The cheerful and curious group asked a variety of questions, and it was a truly rewarding experience as a guide.

A notable stop on the tour was Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto whose top two floors are covered in gold leaf, and it is one of the most iconic landmarks in Japan. Originally built as a retirement villa for a shogun in the late 14th century, it was later converted into a temple, and its reflection shimmering on the surrounding pond makes it a favorite destination for visitors throughout the year.

Hi, everyone! I’m Norifumi Kamon, a government registered guide interpreter. Please call me “Nori”, or “Kamon-san”.
Let me introdece myself. I was born on April 17th in 1952 in Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu island. I used to be an English teacher of Osaka Prefectural high school. When I retired from a teacher ten years ago, I decided to get a professional guide license. I wanted to play a role of the bridge between Japanese people and the people from all over the world as a second life of mine. After two years efforts, I finally got the guide license. Since then, I have guided several handreds of foreign people mainly in Kyoto and Nara for about five years except Corona Pandemic period. Almost all the tourists were deeply impressed by the beauty of nature, traditoin, culture, and art of Japan. I can surely help you enjoy and be satisfied with the sightseeing in Japan. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.
