Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Temple Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. Early in the morning, we received a message requesting to start the tour a little earlier than the scheduled meeting time, at 9:15, so with the driver's agreement, we began the tour then. After confirming the itinerary, we decided to visit Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Fushimi Inari Taisha, and Ginkaku-ji. The guests showed great interest in Japanese culture, including its history, and at each destination they listened happily, nodding along to every part of the explanation. On the way at Kinkaku-ji, we stopped by a woodblock print gallery, where they enjoyed viewing ukiyo-e prints. As they had requested, I introduced a strolling-style garden and a dry landscape (karesansui) garden at a Buddhist temple, and at Fushimi Inari we worshipped together at the main hall so they could experience the atmosphere of Shinto. After Ginkaku-ji, they wished to do some souvenir shopping, so I guided them to the Kyoto Handicraft Center, and as the guiding time had come to an end, we parted ways there.

After a rather long teaching experience at Japanese college, I converted my career about 6 years ago into working as a tour guide for the tourists visiting Japan.
As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.
With all these interesting and exciting experiences I’ve made myself ready to enrich your tour and make it both enjoyable and worthwhile.
