- 13:30-13:50 Travel (on foot; Hotel → Kiyomizu-dera Temple)
- 13:50-14:50 Visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple
- 14:50-15:10 Travel (City Bus; Gojozaka → Higashiyama Shichijo)
- 15:10-16:00 Visit Sanjusangendo
- 16:00-16:30 Travel (Keihan Train; Keihan Shichijo → Gion-Shijo)
- 16:30-17:00 Visit Yasaka Shrine
- 17:00 Tour ends. Said goodbye to the guests in front of Gion-Shijo Station.
タイトル: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and Sanjusangendo
本文: The guests were a group visiting from North America. Initially, we had agreed in advance to visit Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari. However, during the final itinerary discussion on the day of the tour, the guests requested a change because they planned to visit Fushimi Inari the following day. Since most sightseeing spots close after 16:00, after visiting Kiyomizu-dera and Sanjusangendo, I took them to Yasaka Shrine instead of Fushimi Inari. As part of the group was moving by stroller, I guided them along the accessible route at Kiyomizu-dera. At Sanjusangendo, they viewed the hall while carrying the young one. There was one moment of crying at Sanjusangendo, but the group remained calm at other locations, which was very helpful. The guests showed great interest in the 1,001 statues of Kannon at Sanjusangendo.
A notable stop on the tour was Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto. Sanjusangendo, formally known as Rengeo-in, is a Buddhist temple famous for its main hall, which is the longest wooden structure in Japan. The hall houses 1,001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, including a large central seated figure flanked by 1,000 standing statues arranged in rows. The temple's name refers to the thirty-three spaces between the pillars of the hall, and it is renowned for the striking visual impact of its gilded statues standing together in a single space.

We had a lovely morning walk with Michi. He had a great English, was at our meeting point before the planned time, he explained in such a delicate way the story behind the temples, buildings and streets of our tour. He was lovely towards our children and pleased us when we wanted to stop at a shop, eat/ drink smtng or even go to see a statue that was

Kyoto temple tour
Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!
