- 10:50-11:40 Tenryu-ji Temple & Bamboo Grove Path sightseeing
- 11:45-12:30 Lunch @Gyatei
- 12:30-12:45 Kimono Forest & Togetsukyo Bridge sightseeing
- 13:02-13:09 Saga-Arashiyama→Enmachi JR 190 yen
- 13:14-13:24 Enmachi→Kinkaku-ji Temple bus 230 yen
- 13:30-14:00 Kinkaku-ji Temple sightseeing
- 14:10 Disband @taxi terminal in front of Kinkaku-ji Temple
- Only the guests take a taxi to Kyoto Imperial Palace
Can You Take a Private Kyoto Tour of Tenryu-ji and Kinkaku-ji? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from North America who already had knowledge of Japanese history. On this private Kyoto tour we visited Tenryu-ji and Kinkaku-ji, both temples founded by Ashikaga shoguns, so I focused my explanations on the Muromachi shogunate. The guests listened with great interest to topics such as the relationship between the emperor and the shogun, and between those in power and temples and shrines. For lunch we were lucky to get seated smoothly at Gyaatei, where the guests asked many questions while comparing dishes with the English menu.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.

Andy Murao was an amazing and wonderful tour guide. He reached out to us with some ideas for our private tour. He worked with us as we made the tour perfectly suited to our needs. He met us on time. He navigated the crowds and the sites perfectly. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He even put together a nice photo collection of photos he emailed us after. Highly recommend.
