- 8:30 Hotel Meet(@Hotel Hyatt Place Kyoto)
- 8:30-9:20 Travel (Subway; Karasuma Marutamachi → Sanjo Keihan, Keihan Train; Keihan Sanjo → Kiyomizu Gojo)
- 9:20-10:50 Visit Kiyomizu-dera, Yasaka Pagoda, Koshindo
- 10:50-11:00 Travel (Taxi; Koshindo → Sanjusangendo)
- 11:00-11:40 Visit Sanjusangendo
- 11:40-12:00 Travel (Taxi; Sanjusangendo → Fushimi Inari Taisha)
- 12:00-12:30 Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha
- 12:30 See off guests at Fushimi Inari (travel to hotel by taxi)
Title: What Is a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangen-do, and Fushimi Inari
The guests were a group from North America. It was their first time visiting Japan. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangen-do, and Fushimi Inari Taisha. Partway through the tour it started to rain, making it a cold day. Because the group walked at a very slow pace, I became concerned about whether the tour would finish as scheduled. I explained to the guests that if we continued at this pace, we would have no choice but to skip Fushimi Inari at the end. Since it was also raining, the guests agreed to switch to taxi transportation, at their own expense, for Sanjusangen-do and Fushimi Inari. As a result, we were able to finish the tour on time (12:30), but I imagine the guests would have preferred to enjoy the tour at a more relaxed pace. The guests said Fushimi Inari was their favorite, and they commented that they would like to come back another time to visit it more slowly. This route may have been a little too much to cover in 4 hours for the group. (The list indicated four adults, so I was unable to take this into account when planning the schedule.)

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was incredibly courteous and informative. He had a great plan for our tour and everything went smoothly. He talked about the history of the city, industry, and culture and kept our daughters engaged. Highly recommended!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
