What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama and Kinkaku-ji
The guests were a group visiting Kyoto. I received a message that breakfast was taking longer than expected and they might be slightly late, so I moved the tour start time back by 30 minutes. At Tenryu-ji, it was hot, so the guests took their time viewing the garden from the Hojo hall. By the time we went out into the garden it had clouded over a little, so it was not too hot, which was nice. The crape myrtle flowers were beautiful, and when I explained the meaning of the Japanese name, the guests were delighted. In the bamboo grove, it was cool whenever the wind passed through, and since it was not very crowded, we were able to walk at a relaxed pace. We walked through Kameyama Park to Togetsukyo Bridge, then stopped at a nearby shop for a short rest. After that, we took a taxi to Kinkaku-ji. The afternoon sun was strong and the guests seemed a little tired, so I kept my explanations brief and moved through the site fairly quickly. The guests wanted to return to their accommodation to rest for a while, so we took a taxi back to the Hotel and parted ways there.
