Title: What Is a Private Kumano Kodo and Nachi Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
I departed by taxi, boarding it from the office. The guests had rented a camper van, and after discussing where to park and changing plans several times, we arranged to meet at the Hiki roadside station. The guests were from Europe and mentioned that they regularly did trail running and similar activities. First, I gave an explanation at the Takijiri Kodokan and let them see the exhibits. We took photos in front of the stone monument and then went to Hongu by taxi. We moved to the Fushiogami entrance and began the walk from there. It was drizzling, but many people were walking. We arrived at Fushiogami-oji, where I gave an explanation, and then we took the taxi again to Hongu. We prayed at Hongu Taisha, moved to Oyunohara, and took photos with the great torii gate in the background. We picked up bento boxes and ate them on the way to Shingu. The guests asked me many questions, such as about the low water level of the Kumano River and the river boats.
We arrived in Shingu, prayed at Hayatama Taisha, and then went to Nachi by taxi. Along the way the rain stopped and it cleared up a little, but when we arrived at Nachi it drizzled on and off again. At Nachi, the guests took many photos of the buildings of Seiganto-ji and the three-story pagoda. While one of the guests passed through the hollow trunk of the great camphor tree, another was recording a video. At the waterfall, the water volume was high and they were moved by its grandeur. We were running slightly behind schedule, but the driver adjusted things skillfully, so we were able to take photos at Hashigui-iwa as well. The guests listened with great interest. Because I had injured my leg last month and had only recently returned, my walking pace sometimes slowed, and I felt apologetic about that. The guests said they wanted to walk the Kumano Kodo and planned to walk the Nakahechi route on the following day and the day after. We arrived at the Hiki roadside station, said our goodbyes, and I ended the guiding there.

Hello, my name is Kiyoko. I have been a local English guide since 2016. I have studied the history and folklore at a local guide club and have an experience of guiding guests from various countries. I am good at Takijiri Oji-Takahara Jinja, Hosshinmon Oji-Hongu Taisha and Daimonzaka-Nachi Taisha, Seiganto-ji, Nachi Fall. Besides Kumano, I can guide Koyasan, Okunoin, Kongobu-ji, Danjo Garan, Niutsuhime Jinja and Jison-in. I have been to Koyasan 30-40 times . My aim is sharing a great time with guests while guiding. See you in Kumano or in Koyasan.

A great and manageable hike with Kiyoko!
This is a perfect 5 mile-hike for those who only can spend one day on the Kumano Kodo. Our guide was Kiyoko, and we chose to walk from Hosshinmon Oji to Hongu Taisha. Kiyoko was friendly and knowledgeable, and provided many explanations about the history of places we walked through and of the Oji shrines and monuments we passed on the way. The forest is magnificent. She made this hiking trip truly special with her kindness and her experience. Thank you Kiyoko!

The best way to experience the Kumano Kudo in one day
I booked a private tour of the Kumano Kudo trail due to having a short time (1 full day), wanting to avoid coordinating local bus schedules, and wanting to learn from a local person who also speaks English. Kiyoko was absolutely invaluable! She was organized, flexible, knowledgeable, and kind. She coordinated all of the transportation and points of interest while continually lending us a locals perspective and knowledge of these beautiful, historic places. 100% worth the money and I think truly the best way to experience the Kumano Kudo trail if you have a short time.
