Title: What's a Private Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Garden Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests had expressed a strong wish to visit Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Garden, and when I suggested a Higo Zogan (inlay) workshop experience as an additional option, they showed great interest, so I added it to the itinerary and they seemed very satisfied. The guests had watched the historical drama "Atsuhime" many times, were interested in Japanese castles, and could speak some Japanese, so I offered explanations from slightly different angles, such as the connection to the campaigns on the Korean peninsula, Kumamoto's groundwater, Kato Kiyomasa's flood-control works, the history of the origins of the Japanese Red Cross, and the historical significance of the Satsuma Rebellion. After the Higo Zogan workshop, I had planned a walk through the old castle town, but on the day the temperature exceeded 33 degrees, and since we had already walked a considerable distance and everyone was worn out, we traveled by streetcar. When they asked me to recommend places for dinner, I created a list and sent it in advance, which they were very pleased with. I also sent along materials summarizing key points for sightseeing in Kumamoto, though they did not seem to look at these very much.

Separately from this tour, the guests consulted me about transportation to Kurokawa Onsen, so I presented several options and their fares, and arranged a jumbo taxi charter on their behalf. However, due to the weather forecast, the schedule was changed and one leg had to be canceled on short notice. As a result, a cancellation fee (30%) had to be paid. Although they understood, I felt it would have been better to clearly explain the cancellation fee in advance.
