What Is a Private Day Tour of Kawagoe from Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America, on their first trip to Japan and staying at a hotel in Ginza, Tokyo. After seeing photos of the Kurazukuri Ichibangai street of warehouse-style buildings in Kawagoe, they were looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of old Japan. As they were not particularly interested in shrines or temples, we changed the plan to skip Hikawa Shrine.

Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Alley) and the Kurazukuri Ichibangai street were perfect for walking and snacking, and the guests enjoyed them very much. They were delighted with the Kintaro-ame candy, which they found cute and, being light, a good souvenir.

Since one of the guests needed to eat gluten-free, we checked whether items such as the sweet potato brûlée contained soy sauce before enjoying them. The crisp texture of the caramelized sugar seemed to be very much to their liking. Another of the guests enjoyed "Imokoi."

After that, I guided them to Kitain Temple. The autumn leaves were just at their peak, and the contrast between the blue sky and the red foliage was truly beautiful. We then returned once more to Kashiya Yokocho and the Kurazukuri Ichibangai street for shopping. At Kurari, our final stop, they purchased items such as Koedo beer and sweet potato chips.

As the guests were staying two more days in Tokyo, I introduced them to the ginkgo tree-lined avenue at Meiji Jingu Gaien, which is beautiful with its autumn colors.
