Tour Itinerary
- AM 9:00 Tour start. Move from Omicho to Hirokoji (bus)
- AM 9:15 Visit Nishi Chaya District
- AM10:00 Visit Myoryuji Temple
- AM10:50 Move from Hirokoji to Hondamachi (bus)
- AM11:20 Visit D.T. Suzuki Museum
- AM11:50 Walk to Kenrokuen Garden
- PM 12:15 Kinjo Reitaku explanation. Visit Kenrokuen Garden. Rest at teahouse
- PM 13:00 Kanazawa Castle Park (view from outside only)
- PM 13:30 Move from Kenrokuen-shita to Korinbo (bus)
- PM 13:50 Stroll around Nagamachi area. Introduction of Nomura Family Residence, Takada Family, Ashigaru Museum
- PM 15:00 Walk to hotel. Tour ends
Title: What's a Private Kanazawa Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Temples, Buddhist Philosophy, and Kanazawa Castle
The guests had previously joined a tour of Kyoto and Nara and said they had enjoyed it very much. This time, at the request of one of the guests, who wanted to learn about Buddhist philosophy, they had selected Myoryuji Temple and the D.T. Suzuki Museum. I had wondered why they would specifically choose to explore Buddhist philosophy in Kanazawa, but the guests were amazed by the mechanical devices inside Myoryuji Temple, which are not found in ordinary Buddhist temples. After explaining the relationship between the samurai society of Kanazawa at the time and the temples, I conveyed the aims of Buddhism, but since the ideas themselves can seem contradictory, it may have been difficult for visitors from abroad to fully grasp.
The guests mentioned that they had already visited both Himeji Castle and Osaka Castle, and said they were not very interested in Kanazawa Castle. However, once I began guiding them there, they decided to cancel their planned day trip to Toyama and to explore Kanazawa more thoroughly instead.
On this day the temperature dropped about 10°C compared to the previous day, and toward the end one of the guests seemed to feel a bit chilled, so I advised them to get some rest early and concluded the tour.

Incredible tour, one of the highlights of my trip!
Booking a private tour with Hideharu (Yoshi) Yoshino was easily one of the absolute highlights of my trip.
Yoshi-san customized the day perfectly to my interests, accommodating a last-minute hotel change and timing our morning perfectly so we could see the spectacular Gion Matsuri parade without the heavy crowds.
We explored Ginkaku-ji, Nanzen-ji, and the traditional streets of Gion at a wonderful, relaxed pace.
The tour was fascinating and packed with interesting details that allowed me to truly understand Kyoto’s rich history.

A Well-Organized and Informative Tour of Kanazawa
We, a family of 5, had a very enjoyable 6-hour private tour of Kanazawa with Hideharu Yoshino from Japan Guide Agency.
Communication before the tour was excellent and made it very easy to plan the day. Yoshi’s English was excellent, which made communication throughout the tour very smooth. He provided very clear and interesting explanations, giving us a better understanding of the history and culture of the places we visited.
During the tour we explored Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden, and the Geisha and Samurai districts.
It was a well-organized and informative tour. Highly recommended.

Our tea and culture day in Kanazawa with our guide Hideharu Yoshino was amazing! Yoshi is very fluent in English and a great companion to walk around with as he knows so much about the history and culture of Kanazawa and Japan. He also knew the best place to grab lunch and helped us pick what was good local fish, curry or tea to try. Plus he made sure we felt comfortable and never out of place wherever we went. I would recommend him for anyone who likes to know more about what they are seeing or what they can do in the area. Yoshi is great!
