Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Kagoshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Amami no Sato and Sakurajima
The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They love traveling, and by this point they had almost completed their tour of Japan. Since they were now in Kagoshima toward the end of their trip and wanted to see things unique to Amami and Kagoshima, we decided to visit Amami no Sato and Sakurajima. They were deeply impressed by the tropical atmosphere of Amami no Sato. For lunch, they enjoyed all kinds of Kagoshima cuisine, including shabu-shabu, tonkatsu, teppanyaki of Japanese black wagyu beef, and sashimi. I think they were most excited at an apparel shop we stopped by in the Tenmonkan shopping street. They wanted to do more shopping, so we parted ways on site.
A notable stop on the tour was Sakurajima. Sakurajima is one of Japan's most active volcanoes and a symbol of Kagoshima, rising dramatically across the bay from the city. Once a separate island, it became connected to the Osumi Peninsula after a major eruption in 1914. Visitors can enjoy observation points, lava fields, and foot baths heated by the region's abundant geothermal activity, making it a memorable natural landmark.

I’m a national government licensed tour guide. I moved to Kagoshima from Osaka four years ago because I was amazed by its perfect blend of stunning nature beauty and rich culture. We can see the majestic Sakurajima volcano from the city, which reminds us the powerful natural forces. Kagoshima was home to major Meiji Restoration figures, so history lovers will find plenty to explore. And of course, the food is incredible—famous for Kurobuta (Berkshire pork), Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), and Shochu (a local distilled spirit).
I’m passionate about history and love visiting historical sites all over Japan. I also like outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and camping. Kagoshima’s natural landscape is perfect for these adventures, so there’s always something new to discover.
I look forward to sharing wonderful Kagoshima with you and making unforgettable memories together!
