What Is a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. Their communication beforehand was very friendly, and from the moment we met they were smiling and easy to talk with. They had spent several days in Tokyo before coming to Hiroshima, and planned to continue to Kyoto for work after Hiroshima.

Since it had started to rain, we first visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Fortunately, it was not crowded at that time, so the guests were able to take their time. Because it is difficult to talk much in the main building, I gave some explanations in the east building before we walked through. At times the guests were moved to tears, and after the museum they had questions about the harm done to children, how I feel having been born and raised in Hiroshima, and what I think the feelings of the atomic bomb survivors are. I did my best to answer each question as carefully as I could.

The guests really enjoyed the okonomiyaki restaurant we went to for lunch, and were especially delighted to be able to watch the cooking, taking many photos.

Shukkeien Garden after lunch was also quiet and calm, and the guests said the peaceful atmosphere was very soothing and relaxing.

The guests did not take many photos at the Peace Park, but took many at Shukkeien Garden, and when I offered to take a photo of them together, they were very pleased.

At the end of the tour, I recommended some ramen restaurants, and since they would be staying at a ryokan on Miyajima the following day, they had questions about Miyajima, so I shared some recommended shops and spots. They responded, "You know all the best places! We're so glad we requested a local guide!" and later sent a kind message of thanks that made me very happy.

Hello. My name is Mari.
I am a certified local tour guide in Hiroshima.

I was born and grew up in Hiroshima until I entered in a university in Tokyo.
After 6 years in Tokyo, I came back to Hiroshima because I really love my hometown and wanted to spend the rest of my life here.

Hiroshima is very comfortable city to live in and rich in nature.
I am so happy that I have been able to raise my kids here.

Hiroshima is absolutely full of beautiful and historically important places and also the great food.
I am so excited to introduce the wonderful experiences here in Hiroshima and hope you will come to love this place, too.
Look forward to meeting you.
