What Is a Private Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
I guided a group visiting from Oceania around Hiroshima. In light rain, I first took them to the hypocenter, and then we walked around the monuments in the Peace Memorial Park. In front of the Children's Peace Monument, the guests wrote messages on recycled paper made from paper cranes and placed them there. The main museum displayed some graphic and disturbing images, but the guests viewed them very earnestly. One of the guests asked, "Do the effects of the atomic bomb's radiation extend across several generations? Is there any support from the government?" The official announcement states that "there is no effect of radiation on the next generation," but I answered that "there may be some effect." At Shukkeien Garden, I provided some carp food to the guests, and they enjoyed feeding the carp.
