Title: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report
On the day of the tour, heavy rain that had begun the previous night led to school closures in Hiroshima City. The JR trains had stopped running in the early morning, but since the local Hiroden streetcars and buses were still operating, I met the guests and adjusted our schedule accordingly. Because I had emailed the guests the day before, I was confident there would be no same-day cancellation. However, around 10 a.m. there was no information available on whether JR had resumed service (phone lines were also down), and since the guests wanted to top up their IC card, we went to the station, confirmed that service had resumed, and then took the train to Miyajima. The guests were interested in the Hiroshima atomic bombing, residual radiation, the mobilization of students for wartime labor, and the paper cranes, and at Miyajima they were interested in the 12th-century shrine architecture and the guardian lion-dog statues. At the Peace Memorial Museum, after giving my usual explanation, I accompanied the guests partway and then let them view the rest on their own. When I asked, "Was there anything about the exhibits or anything else that you had questions about?" they answered, "No. The horror of the atomic bomb came through very clearly," which put me at ease!

Hiroshima Tour with Yoshi
Yoshi was truly one of the highlights of our entire trip. From the very beginning, she went above and beyond—meeting us at the station and making everything feel effortless and perfectly organized.
She is incredibly knowledgeable, especially about Hiroshima’s history. What made the experience even more special is that her perspective comes from someone who was born and raised there. Hearing the stories, details, and context directly from her added a level of depth and authenticity that you simply cannot get otherwise.
Beyond her knowledge, Yoshi is just a beautiful human being—kind, warm, and genuinely caring. Spending the day with her felt like a hug to the heart. She made us feel comfortable, cared for, and fully present in such a meaningful place.
She guided us through every site with perfect timing and intention, making sure we experienced everything without ever feeling rushed.
If you are visiting Hiroshima, I cannot recommend Yoshi enough. Seeing the city through her eyes is something truly unforgettable.
