What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima UNESCO World Heritage Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

Because the booking had been made quite a while earlier, I mistakenly ran the tour as an 8-hour tour when a 7-hour tour would have been sufficient. The tour itself went smoothly. For lunch on Miyajima, after some discussion we decided on "soba," but in the end the soba also contained wheat flour and could not be eaten, so during the meal only cola was consumed, and a protein bar was eaten afterward. I should have asked about dietary needs in advance, but on this particular occasion I did not make an advance inquiry, which was a mistake. That said, even if I had known, I must admit that certain restrictions are quite difficult to accommodate with Japanese cuisine (I also recommended onigiri, but it was not to the guest's taste), and the guest themselves was aware that "there isn't much I can eat in Japan." Also, at the museum, one of the guests said "it's too cruel and it makes me feel down" and took a break immediately after entering. The whole group left the museum in the shortest time I have ever experienced. I heard that the guests had greatly enjoyed hands-on activities, such as a sumo experience tour in Tokyo and a go-kart tour in Shibuya. This Hiroshima tour (a UNESCO World Heritage tour) has a strong focus on shrines and temples, the history of the war, and educational aspects, so if the guests' interests did not lie there, it may have been fundamentally difficult for them to enjoy it. The relationship during the tour was good and the conversation flowed well, but I felt there was a fundamental mismatch between what I could offer and what was being sought. It was also the first time in all my tours that I, as the guide, paid for lunch, which made me think the guests may not have been satisfied. I am left wondering whether it was a lack of skill on my part, or whether the outcome would have been the same regardless of who was in charge.
