What Is a Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
I met the guests at the ticket gate off the Shinkansen arriving at Hiroshima Station at 9:56, then took the loop bus to Kamiyacho. From the hypocenter we walked via Aioi Bridge, visiting the memorial monuments within Peace Memorial Park and touring the Rest House. Due to time constraints, we could only secure 45 minutes at the Peace Memorial Museum. After viewing the G7 Hall, we went to a restaurant in Otemachi for lunch. Some of the guests were unable to eat the fish powder (bonito powder) used in okonomiyaki. The restaurant kindly accommodated the order, and the guests were pleased as we left. After moving to the bus stop, the bus arrived right away, and we headed to Miyajima via Nishi-Hiroshima. Passing along the main approach, we visited Itsukushima Shrine, Daigan-ji Temple, and Daisho-in Temple, then took about 30 minutes of free time along the approach, gathering at the pier at 16:55. We boarded the 17:10 ferry. The barrier-free room was well received. We arrived at Hiroshima Station at 18:10. The guests wanted to buy bento and drinks, but the bento shop was closed, so I took them to a store to purchase drinks before we parted ways. It was 18:20. In addition to the JR Pass, they had Suica cards, so travel went smoothly. I believe they were generally pleased.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima, and began guiding services in full swing in July 2023. I am a second-generation of A-bomb survivor. Neither of my parents told much about the war, but I can tell you some of their experiences. In Hiroshima City, I can tell you about Peace Park, Peace Memorial Museum, and other monuments. In Miyajima, I can tell you about Itsukushima Shrine, Daigan-ji Temple, Daisho-in Temple, etc. Hiroshima has some specialties such as okonomiyaki, oysters, and conger eel. I will be able to introduce you to some delicious restaurants. Let’s learn and enjoy Hiroshima together.

Ask for Nob – he’s the best guide.
We had the best half day tour with Nob. He was so knowledgeable about the events that happened before and after the dropping of the Atomic bomb. His personal family history also added so much to the understanding of the events of that day. He was pleasant and kind and the six of us so enjoyed his company. His English is excellent. We saw all the major sights at Peace park starting with the Peace Memorial museum. We ended at Shukkeien gardens followed by a wonderful Okonomiyaki lunch recommended by Nob which was our best meal in the 2 weeks we’ve been in Japan. If you want a thorough understanding of the impact of that fateful day and what the Hiroshima people suffered, I can’t recommend anyone better than Nob as your guide.

Nob did a great job giving us the history leading up to the destruction of Hiroshima. He added a personal touch with his family and what they had experienced after the bomb was dropped. We were able to understand his English and he made sure we were all together when he spoke. This was one of a few tour guides that took us to a restaurant where we were able to sit down and have a moment to eat an authentic Japanese dish. Unfortunately the museum we visited was extremely busy and we didn’t have enough time to spend there before we had to return to our cruise ship.

My family and I had an amazing day in Hiroshima with Nob as our tour guide. It was great to find out that he is a native Hiroshiman, as he shared stories about family and growing up there. We loved learning about Hiroshima and the A-bomb at the Peace Memorial Museum. We then got to eat Okmnomiyaki at a local restaurant for lunch. We then visited the A-dome, followed by a visit to SOGO department store for a dessert tasting in the food hall. Everything we tried was amazing and left with sweet treats in hand. Nob-san had planned out a great itinerary, but was flexible to give us some time for extra shopping at a nearby shopping arcade. Our family greatly enjoyed the tour and Nob-san was so personable and took great care of us throughout the entire day and escorted us back to the cruise terminal.

We are so grateful to our tour guide Nob. He is a second-generation survivor of the Atomic bomb! He greeted us at the train station right on time and he had 3 daily schedules all typed and printed up for us to use. It was nice to have a snapshot of our day before it started, we moved at a good pace, and everything was right on schedule. He reviewed the tide so that we could see Miyajima at a beautiful time of day! What a nice touch!
Nob is very proud of his country and his heritage! We are so glad he shared that with us! And we loved the Okonomiyaki restaurant he took us for lunch – my daughter is a vegan and he did his research so she could join in on the yummy meal! Another kind gesture and personal touch. You can tell he takes pride in his job and in every detail for his customers. So nice to see these days!
We had fun making origami during our ice cream break, his wife even made us some paper cranes – how sweet! We have so many pictures to remember this very special day. The afternoon at Hiroshima is very surreal, being there in person is hard to describe, they have memorialized the event in a perfect way. We are so glad we were able to experience it.
We highly recommend this company and it’s tour guides.
Thank you for the private and personal service! It was greatly appreciated. Nob was polite, kind, respectful, timely, and careful.
