The guests were a group visiting from North America. They had originally come as a larger group of about twenty people, made up of family and acquaintances, each arranging their own preferred itinerary. Another group had done a cycling tour. The tour was originally scheduled to start at 10:00, but the guests emailed saying they wanted to start earlier because of the heat, so we began at 8:30. They had traveled around Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto, and other places, with Hiroshima being their final destination, and they mentioned they were tired due to the heat. Since they had already seen many shrines and temples, they said they wanted to enjoy the scenery at Miyajima. They were delighted by the view from the ferry heading to Miyajima. We went as far as the Great Torii, but they said they were hungry and would skip Itsukushima Shrine, so we had an early lunch (okonomiyaki), which they enjoyed and found delicious. After that, we headed directly from Miyajima to the Peace Park via the World Heritage Sea Route, and they were very taken with the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.
In the afternoon we strolled around the Peace Park, but it was extremely hot and humid, so one of the guests in particular was quite tired. There was a line at the entrance to the main building of the museum, so they said they would skip it, and we did not view the exhibits in the main building. The tour was an 8-hour tour scheduled to end at 4:30, but they said they wanted to return to the station early and rest somewhere cool, so we took a JR bus from in front of the Peace Park to Hiroshima Station and parted ways at the place where we had met. The cycling group was to meet at the original meeting point (in front of the Starbucks) at 5:00 and return to Osaka on the 5:30 Shinkansen. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant, but they were quite worn out by the heat and humidity. Incidentally, they had JR Passes, so they were pleased to be able to make good use of them.

We went by train and ferry to see the shrines and the beautiful red Torii gate on the island of Miyajima. It was a wonderful trip and so much was added to the experience by the knowledge and information provided by our guide, Sachi. Next we went to the Peace Memorial and Museum. It is something everyone should experience just once. The Japanese have created a respectful and informative forum to share what happened on that dreadful day, and to encourage a peaceful future. It was crowded and I would not recommend going in the school tours season if possible. However, it was well managed and the children were all well behaved and respectful. It was good to see young people engaged in the experience.

Wonderful experience with Sachi in Hiroshima
Tripadvisor review: Hiroshima City 4hr Private Walking Tour with Licensed Guide
Sachi was such a great guide. She had such a depth of knowledge about the history of Hiroshima. She had a beautiful way about her which made us feel very comfortable. Her understanding of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb and its impact was extensive. Although an extremely sad and at times very confronting experience, we came away with a more realistic understanding of the impact on the Japanese psyche and the world today. Thank you Sachi

Sachi, a lifelong Hiroshima resident, was a wonderful guide for our group of 4 adults and 2 children. We were able to see Hiroshima castle, the beautiful Shukkeien garden, the monuments and sights around Hiroshima, and museum. It was a valuable learning experience for us all. The garden was definitely a highlight–Sachi had fish food so that my 9 year old could feed the giant koi fish. My children enjoyed the children’s peace monument and Sachi had paper for them to make origami paper cranes to leave. We’re so glad that we were able to visit Hiroshima and that Sachi was our guide.
