What's a Private Day Tour of Himeji Castle Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. The guests arrived at the meeting point earlier than scheduled, so we started the tour right away. First, I explained an overview of Himeji Castle from Castle View. Since we would be visiting Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, and Engyoji Temple on Mount Shosha that day, we went to the Shinki Bus Center and purchased discount round-trip tickets for the bus and ropeway before heading to Himeji Castle.
It was very hot today. As one of the guests seemed a little tired, sightseeing took more time than expected. After touring Himeji Castle, we took a short break at a tea house near Koko-en Garden, and after visiting Koko-en Garden, we headed to Engyoji Temple by bus. Although it was a hot day, there were many tourists from Asia at Engyoji Temple. Partly for this reason, the atmosphere at Engyoji Temple was not very quiet. After Engyoji Temple, we returned to Himeji Station by ropeway and bus, and the tour came to an end. The guests thanked me, though one of them appeared to be quite tired.

Our delightful guide, Norio, was knowledgeable and a master at train negotiation! A highlight of the tour was the Herb Garden and Ropeway visit. The Sake Brewery and Museum was interesting with fabulous explanation from Norio combined with outstanding exhibits and tastings! He then left us to wander at our leisure in Chinatown.

We learnt lots about Himeji castle and it was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see all the Koi fish. Norio made sure to take us to the best places and even took us to a great local sake place we asked for 🙂
