Title: What Is a Private Himeji Castle Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests today were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Oceania. They run a farm back home and export beef to Japan. The guests had arrived in Tokyo two days earlier and had been in Osaka the previous day. In fact, today was quite challenging just getting to the meeting point.

The guests were traveling in Japan on a plan arranged by a travel agency, and today they were scheduled to arrive in Himeji by Shinkansen at 10:30. I waited at the Shinkansen ticket gate, but even after the scheduled Shinkansen arrived, the guests did not appear. When I contacted them, the reply was, "We're on the train now and just passed Kakogawa five minutes ago." When I asked, "Are you coming on the Special Rapid Service?" the answer was, "Yes."

I hurried out through the central ticket gate to wait, and the whole group appeared with large suitcases. We quickly went back into the station (I paid the entry fee later), and since the guests had JR Passes, we went to the coin lockers on the Shinkansen gate floor and stored all the suitcases there.

When I asked why they had taken a different train than planned, the reply was, "Because we're flexible." In any case, we were able to meet up safely, so we started the tour. We visited the Castle View spot, Himeji Castle, and Kokoen Garden. Since they said they would not have lunch, we all had ice cream together and returned to Himeji Station. As the guests were heading from Himeji to Tokyo, we obtained reserved-seat tickets for the Shinkansen at Himeji Station, and the tour ended.

The reason the guests did not take the Shinkansen this morning was, in fact, that they had misunderstood "Shinkansen" and "the bullet train" to be different trains. From the Shinkansen heading to Tokyo, the guests sent me a thank-you message. They were very pleased.
