What's a Private Walking Tour of Himeji Castle Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. We met at Himeji Station and toured Castle View, Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, the rooftop and first floor of Egret Himeji, and Genmyoan, ending the tour at Genmyoan.
This day fell in the middle of the Himeji Castle Festival, so Otemae-dori was lively with a parade. Himeji Castle was somewhat crowded, but we were able to tour it without any particular problems. The azaleas at Koko-en Garden were beautiful, and the guests enjoyed some of the finest sake at the Ryuriki shop, which put them in great spirits. I believe it turned out to be a wonderful tour.

Our delightful guide, Norio, was knowledgeable and a master at train negotiation! A highlight of the tour was the Herb Garden and Ropeway visit. The Sake Brewery and Museum was interesting with fabulous explanation from Norio combined with outstanding exhibits and tastings! He then left us to wander at our leisure in Chinatown.

We learnt lots about Himeji castle and it was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see all the Koi fish. Norio made sure to take us to the best places and even took us to a great local sake place we asked for 🙂
