What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Owakudani, the Ropeway, and Lake Ashi

The guests were visitors from North America. Since one of the guests had some difficulty walking and asked to go slowly, we avoided stairs as much as possible and used elevators and escalators. At Owakudani, they mentioned it was their first time seeing volcanic activity, and they were very delighted. Because it was a weekday, we were able to board the ropeway smoothly, unlike the heavy crowds of the previous Sunday, so we could take our time. They were also very pleased with the natural beauty of Lake Ashi. As the guests had expressed a wish to have lunch at a nice restaurant, I had made a reservation in advance at IL Miraggio at a hotel in Hakone. It is a hotel with a lovely atmosphere on the beautiful lakeside, and they enjoyed a course meal from a menu I had sent by email in advance. The garden of the hotel and the view of Lake Ashi were of artistic beauty, and they told me that dining here was a Good Choice. We enjoyed conversation on topics such as elections, diplomacy, and their favorite whisky, and they treated me to the meal. As a token of thanks, I presented them with sake I had prepared in advance, which they were happy to receive. The guests were very cultured and refined and enjoyed Hakone, though it was a pity that Mount Fuji could not be seen due to the clouds.
