Mount Fuji and Hakone Private Day Tour: A Licensed Guide's Report on Avoiding Holiday Crowds

The guests were cheerful visitors. As the day fell in the middle of a three-day weekend with a rare clear autumn sky, I explained that heavy traffic congestion would be unavoidable, and after getting their understanding, we set off. As expected, there was information that the ropeway had queues of more than 60 minutes in both the up and down directions. To avoid this, and to show Mount Fuji while it was still visible, we headed straight to Moto-Hakone, and I was able to provide a magnificent view of Mount Fuji. When we went to the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine, there was again a huge line. We avoided the queue, and the guests took photos as they wished. We nearly passed by the local products shop because there was not enough time before the boat. The pirate ship offered wonderful scenery, and the guests enjoyed themselves throughout the voyage. We arrived at Togendai, but the ropeway still had a huge line overflowing outside as before, so the guests themselves were satisfied with the decision, and we returned.

A notable stop on the tour was Hakone Shrine. Hakone Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine located at the foot of Mount Hakone on the shores of Lake Ashi, and it has been revered for centuries by travelers and samurai alike. Its iconic red torii gate, known as the "Torii of Peace," stands in the water of Lake Ashi and has become one of the most photographed spots in the Hakone area. The shrine grounds are surrounded by tall cedar trees, creating a serene and atmospheric setting that reflects the deep connection between nature and spirituality in Japanese culture.
