- 10∶45 Meet at Odawara Station 11∶13 Take the mountain railway via Hakone-Yumoto to arrive at Chokoku-no-Mori at 12∶16 12∶35 Hakone Open-Air Museum After strolling and lunch, take the bus at 14∶01 via Kowakien to arrive at Hakone Sekisho-ato at 14∶35 Shopping at Maruyama Bussan Take the bus at 15∶16 to arrive at Hakone-Yumoto Station at 16∶30 Disband at the 16∶45 boarding point for the ryokan loop bus bound for Nanpuso
What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like for a Family Group? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting Hakone. Since the tour was designed to focus on the younger members of the group, I confirmed their agreement to proceed that way before we set off. Although the group was a little shy at first, they became completely relaxed at the Hakone Open-Air Museum and did not want to come down from the jungle gym. Because of our schedule, we walked briskly past the maze so it would not be spotted. At the Maruyama marquetry (yosegi) demonstration, they watched wide-eyed and made quite a few purchases. Since they had arrived from Kyoto by Shinkansen that day and started sightseeing in Hakone right away, they were understandably tired, and on the bus back the younger members of the group slept soundly.

Hiro-san knows Hakone!
Our guide, Hiro-san, did a wonderful job introducing us to the area of Hakone – leading us on a great tour of several requested destinations. We were lucky to see Mt. Fuji at the top of the ropeway, had a fun ride on a pirate ship on Lake Ashi, enjoyed a fantastic lunch at a local restaurant, and picked up some great souvenirs at a puzzle-box store which have wowed our family and friends. One of the great things that Hiro did throughout the day was to educate and amuse us with numerous pictures, stories, and lessons from his backpack. It felt like Hiro-san was part of our family that day and we can’t imagine having tried to experience Hakone’s great sites without him.

Great Day and Tour
Kamakura was amazing. Enjoyed visiting the beautiful gardens and shrines. Hiro was a great guide. Having him guide us made the day stress free and much more enjoyable. It was interesting learning about Japan and the culture. I would definitely recommend this tour and visiting Kamakura.
