A Private Hakodate Day Tour by Taxi: What Does a Licensed Guide's Report Look Like?

The guests visited Japan from North America. They had been to Japan once before, many years ago, and had visited places such as Kyoto at that time. On this tour they used canes while walking, and we used taxis for all transportation. Since walking was difficult, the guests were always looking for a place to sit, and I often walked together with one of the guests while the other rested. Moving between places took extra time. We were blessed with good weather, warm enough to feel hot at times. However, by touring at a relaxed pace, I was able to give thorough explanations, which was a good thing. Upon arriving at the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, one of the guests immediately sat down to rest. After some window shopping inside the warehouse with the group, the tour came to an end. The photo was taken at Goryokaku Tower.

A notable stop on the tour was Goryokaku Tower in Hakodate. Goryokaku is a star-shaped fortress originally built in the final years of the Edo period, and it is one of the most distinctive historical sites in northern Japan. From the observation deck of Goryokaku Tower, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the unique five-pointed star shape of the fort below, which is especially beautiful when the surrounding cherry trees bloom in spring. The site also played an important role in Japanese history as the stage of the Battle of Hakodate, making it a meaningful place to combine scenic views with historical storytelling.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.
