Tripadvisor review: Nagasaki Full-Day Private Tour with Government-Licensed Guide
Yuko reached out to us well before the tour to find out what kind of itinerary we wanted. Because one of our interests happened to overlap well with her knowledge, she created a custom itinerary for us. Most of the places we visited do not appear on the tour's 'What to expect' list, nor in the Japan guidebook I bought to plan the trip as a whole. Only a local could have pulled this off.

Whether a spot was on the official list or not, Yuko was highly knowledgeable about everywhere we went and we learned a great deal. She was very clearly-spoken and we never had any trouble at all understanding each other. Not a moment of our day was wasted.

But that's only half the story: we could not have expected how well we'd get to know each other as people over the course of a single day. We chatted about all kinds of things when we had downtime walking between sights and eating lunch. We got into it so much that on more than one occasion, Yuko felt she had to apologize for putting us back on topic when we arrived at the next stop. Again, not a moment wasted.

Perhaps the best example of Yuko's warm friendliness and cool expertise came when we happened to talk about cats. She pointed out that Nagasaki has a strong cat-lover culture and diverted us on-the-fly to two incredible little cat-themed shops. She gave us customization on top of customization, all without a hitch. (As an aside, the cats we happened to see were so unconcerned with our presence that it was clear that the people of Nagasaki must be nothing but kind to them.)

With so much that was wonderful about our tour, it feels like an afterthought to mention the fantastic lunch selection Yuko made. We had an absolutely delicious traditional Japanese lunch in the cutest, most cozy restaurant we've been to. The price was shockingly fair for what we got, too.

This was the second of two JGA tours we did on our trip, and both of them utterly surpassed our expectations. Even if you don't end up working with Yuko, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

Yesterday we had a fantastic private tour with Mrs Yuko. She showed us the Gunkanjima Museum and we visited the Suwa Shrine, including a wonderful lunch at the nearby soba/udon café. This was a great alternative to our original plan (visiting Gunkanjima Island itself, which was cancelled due to weather conditions). We are thankful that Mrs Yuko came up with a great back-up plan.

Mrs Yuko was quite knowledgeable, very friendly, polite and interested. Besides sharing her knowledge about Nagasaki, we were also able to ask our other questions about Japanese traditions and culture.

In short, the perfect guide and we definitely recommend her! Arigato gozaimasu, Yuko-san!

Yuko was a fantastic tour guide for our short stay in Nagasaki! She was very knowledgeable, as you’d expect from a local, super personable, and had great energy. We had rainy weather, but she was able to incorporate public transportation and short breaks at a cafe and other covered areas to get us out of the weather and give us the best experience. I would absolutely recommend booking this tour with Yuko for anyone who wants a comprehensive tour of Nagasaki through a local perspective. 10/10!
