Ryo

Hi, my name is Ryo. I am a National Government Licensed Guide with a background spanning three continents and two very different worlds: the cutting-edge future and the complex past.

Having graduated from high school in Canada and university in the UK, I not only speak English but also understand the nuances of Western culture, norms, and expectations. My time spent befriending students from all over the globe has given me a unique perspective on how Japan looks through international eyes, allowing me to explain our traditions in a way that makes sense to you.

My passion lies in the history and culture of Kyushu and Japan at large. Feel free to ask any questions about Japanese history or modern-day Japan; I can deliver personalised answers backed by wide-ranging knowledge.

While I am a deep lover of history, my academic “home” is actually Computer Science. This means I can offer you a rare dual perspective: I can guide you through the spiritual depths of a centuries-old shrine in the morning, and discuss the latest trends in Japanese robotics or the industrial policies of local governments.

As a newly licensed guide, every tour with me is a fresh exploration, backed by meticulous preparation and a genuine desire to make your tour the highlight of your stay. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast, a history buff, or a first-time visitor, I can’t wait to show you the intriguing aspects of Japan.
