I am Miwako, a nationally licensed English-speaking tour guide. The name Miwako literally means beautiful Japanese child. I was born to introduce beauty of Japan to tourists from overseas. However, Japanese names can be hard to pronounce and remember, so please call me by my nickname: Oli or Olive, like Popeye’s girlfriend. There’s a funny story behind the nickname that I’ll share when we meet.
I am in my late fifties and have lived all around the Kansai region. I was born in Osaka, raised in Hyogo prefecture, lived in Kyoto when I was in University, and now am back in Osaka. I’m familiar with the top sightseeing spots, restaurants of all types, and can also introduce the hidden gems I’ve discovered through my own curiosity.
The cover photo was taken at Ofusa Kannon Temple, famous for its magical Summer Wind Chime Festival. I love introducing hidden gems and local traditions like this to my guests!
I worked as a writer in my previous career, and also photographed my interviewees (including celebrities) and all kinds of locations. Please look forward to taking memorable pictures as well!

Our guide, Olive, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned lots of not-common information that made the tour special! Olive is very friendly and knowledgeable and she is keen to share information and do things to make the tour special. We asked for a unique itinerary made by the guide to see 'hidden gems' and she delivered excepionally! Thank you for a wonderful day in Kyoto!!
