I am your guide, Hideki Mori.
Please call me Mori san.
I am a retired engineer with a master’ degree in engineering from Tohoku University and an MBA from New York University.
I’ve been a tour guide since 2017.
I lived in the USA for 6 years.
1. From 1975-1976, I majored in earth sciences as a government-sponsored student at the University of California at San Diego.
2. From 1988-1993, I was stationed in New York as the manager of the branch office of a Japanese company.
During my stay in New York, I lived in Harrison, east of Manhattan, about a 45 minute train ride from Grand Central Station on the New Haven Line, with my wife, and three small children. They attended a local school and a local nursery. I passed the entrance exam for the MBA course at New York University Stern Graduate School of Business as a part time student. It took me 3.5 years to get the degree. My office was in Midtown, so I took the subway to Wall Street to take classes after 5 p.m. It was a very interesting experience.
I worked for a major engineering company in Japan for 25 years, and for the Tokyo branch of a global electrical and robotics company for 8 years. During my career, I have visited about 30 countries, giving presentations at business meeting , negotiations and international conferences. I have a lot of experience talking to people from different countries, different cultures, different languages. I like to travel abroad. For example, my family has been to Hawaii 5-6 times. These experiences are helping me a lot in my guiding work today.
I live in a small town called Samukawa in Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, located between Tokyo and Hakone, which is a popular mountain resort with hot springs. I do tours mainly in the Kanto area, namely Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Nikko, etc. I enjoy talking and listening to stories on various themes, and introducing the history and culture of Japan and the lives of the local people.
My typical tour starts with a small meeting with the guest at the meeting point, such as in a hotel lobby. I will listen to your wishes and propose an itinerary to meet you. If the weather is not friendly on the day of the tour, I will present you with several options, too. I will ask you about your food preferences and food allergies and recommend some options.
