And let’s not forget our beloved Akita dog, a symbol of loyalty and affection known worldwide.
During the pandemic, I walked around tourist spots of Akita prefecture. As a result of this, I have understood what I should convey to tourists to enhance their experience of these places.
For example, the samurai residence street in Kakunodate is the most visited tourist destination in Akita prefecture.
Kakunodate has 400 weeping cherry trees, and no other place in Japan has so many weeping cherry trees.
Even if it is not cherry blossom viewing season, one of the best ways to enjoy sightseeing in Kakunodate is to walk around the town imagining the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom on the branches overflowing from the walls.
Another example is a very rare mural painting depicting events in Akita by Fujita.
Fujita requested that the painting should be illuminated by natural light.
A private art museum was subsequently built with 18 round windows on the roof.
The work is now in the Akita art museum.
How would this large mural have looked if it had been illuminated by the natural light through those windows?
It would have looked different according to the season.
